Fact: Fandom teaches us strange things

As I’m writing in English and not Korean, there’s no need for me to add on -ah or -yah to names. I’ve recently learned that it’s actually not a way of expressing affection (like fandom would have me believe) but actually a grammatical particle that is necessary to know where the name falls in the sentence (when spoken in Korean). Except that sometimes I think it sounds really pretty with forms of certain names like Jinnie-yah, for example. So I use it. Writer’s prerogative, or something. :)

I can see why it may be a way of expressing affecting though. Yah is defintely a particle to pinpoint the subjects (specifically names), but it can only be used among friends, so there's a tiny hint of intimacy or closeness to it. That's what I've learned. ^^
