A/N I've decided to go by Kurosaki rather than Kurosagi, just because this first couple chapters will be from his point of view, and technically as he's thinking, he's thinking as Kurosaki...so yeah. He also turned out a bit darker than I first thought, so...yeah...anyway... And this is shorter than I meant for it, but I liked how it ended. So here you go. It just means you get to read it sooner lol...
A/N 2 Leave me comments so I know this is being read!!!!! Please!!!!! And friend me...I will absolutely add you back, I love friends!! Excuse my typos...I'm sick...I'll fix them when I'm not...
Chapter 1
Ariake. The name dredged up memories from Kurosaki’s soul that he didn’t really like remembering. Memories that had haunted him for the last ten years of his life. Ten vicious and cruel years.
He didn’t know if this particular Ariake family had anything to do with the Ariake’s he had been searching for these past years. The Ariake couple that used to do what he did: swindle the swindlers. The Ariake couple that had promised to help con the man that had swindled Kurosaki’s father. The Ariake couple that had back stabbed his father and swindled him for twice what he was worth. The Ariake couple that had caused the mental degradation of his father and eventual deaths of his entire family. Those damned Ariakes.
He really wasn’t one to jump to conclusions. He’d be methodical about this, careful, and hopefully he’d be right. And if he was, he’d crush them; obliterate their sorry asses from the planet...because that’s what they deserved.
The first step was the eldest brother. Kurosaki's information stated that Ariake Koichi was the mastermind behind all the scams his family had successfully completed. Some of the jobs had even been conning swindlers which pissed Kurosaki off to no end. Swindling swindlers was his job. That fact alone was enough to screw them over irregardless of their parentage.
The eldest worked at a restaurant in Yokosuka run by one Hayashi George (Kurosaki thought it a silly name.) Ariake Koichi lived upstairs, by himself, and didn't have any girlfriends, at least none that anyone knew about. Kurosaki could understand this well; girlfriends were difficult in this line of business.
Kurosaki hadn't had any trouble in locating the restaurant and he now stood in front of it, casually dressed, briefcase in hand, walking like he was worth a million dollars (which he was, he just pretended he had obtained the money through legal activities.)
The colorfully painted building was too yellow for Kurosaki's liking, and when he stepped into the small store he found that it's interior was just as horrifically bright. Even the aprons the workers wore were quite colorful. He supposed it wouldn't have been as terrible for someone with a less gloomier disposition than himself.
"Irasshaimasen."
Kurosaki felt his insides twist into icicles as Ariake Koichi's pleasant but hurried greeting clamored for attention. The swindler nodded and sat down at the bar, reprimanding himself severely. He didn't even know for sure if they were the Ariakes; there was no need for him to feel extreme hatred...yet.
"What can I get for you?"
Kurosaki thought Ariake had a pleasant voice. "Whatever is your best item," Kurosaki returned smoothly, "but I'm in a bit of a rush, so as long as it won't take long to make and it'll fill my belly, I'm happy."
Ariake laughed. "How about curry?"
"Sure."
Ariake bustled away, almost immediately wrapped up in the service of other patrons.
Kurosaki watched. This wasn't like his other jobs. This family had temporarily stopped swindling (for reasons Kurosaki intended to sniff out) so he couldn't "allow" himself to be swindled. He had to initiate the scam, and it had to be good enough to bait all three of them. He just didn't know what that lure would be quite yet.
Five minutes later, Ariake placed a plate in front of Kurosaki that set the swindler's stomach rumbling. He tentatively sipped a taste, all too aware of Ariake's watchful gaze.
"Delicious," he pronounced, and Ariake stepped away to help other customers, a satisfied smile pulling at the corners of his mouth.
Kurosaki made short work of the dish and after ordering another plateful, paid his bill and left. The only thing he had learned, and he wasn't sure if it was even useful yet, was that Ariake was a splendid chef.
He returned the next day and the day after. In fact, he became quite the regular. He and Ariake would have very pleasant conversations and Kurosaki soon learned that Ariake wanted to open up a shop of his own. The Swindler did a small dance of victory in his mind when he heard this because he was quite sure he had found his method of exploitation.
Stage two consisted of a visit to the second eldest of the Ariake family. Lucky for him, the day Kurosaki visited the "adult video shop" where Ariake Taisuke worked, the third Ariake child was there complaining about her umpteenth failed job interview. Kurosaki filed that away in his brain as "possibly important and pertinent information."
His second visit to the shop proved his initial suspicions correct. Ariake Shizuna was on her 23rd job interview (Kurosaki assumed that it was from the time they stopped swindling until now, only a period of six months.) Her brother did not seem to be very impressed.
Kurosaki pretended to be interested in a section of DVDs entitled "Plain: The Borders of Sex and Death" while he eavesdropped on their conversation.
"You shouldn't be so picky."
"I'm not being picky."
"Heh..." Ariake Taisuke leaned his elbows on the counter and grinned at his sister. "Then get a job already. You could work here."
"No, thank you. I wouldn't want to work in a gross place like this."
She pushed herself past him roughly and sat down behind the counter, automatically picking up a game controller and starting to play a mindless video game that looked like a ripped-off version of Mario Bros.
Kurosaki had disguised himself - being a regular at this shop wasn't quite the same thing as being a regular at the eldest Ariake's place of work - and he moved up to the counter to pay for a random DVD he had decided upon. He would use it for something later, he was sure. He prided himself in resourcefulness.
Ariake Taisuke was pleasant enough during checkout, and Kurosaki couldn't help but notice that his sister was beautiful. Her brother cleared his throat when he noticed Kurosaki staring and the swindler gave the man his best perverted grin before walking out the door.
Time to plot.
