Little Green Men

Title: Little Green Men
Rating: PG-13
Genre: AU, Romance, Maybe a little fluff
Pairing: Yunjae
Summary: Yunho meets Jaejoong over a drink at what maybe could be the end of the world.

“Surreal isn’t it?”

I glanced up from the whiskey in my hand to find the most beautiful human being on earth stubbing out a cigarette and grinning at me like the cheshire cat reincarnate.

I stared at him stupidly and he laughed. I thought that if that wasn’t what angels sounded like then I was going to turn Buddhist.

He jerked his head towards the television, “That. The little green men.”

“Oh,” I managed, “Right. Spaceships.”

He laughed again and I put my drink down, determined to sober up if only to prove to myself that I wasn’t dreaming.

He stood and sat in the chair next to mine. “Jaejoong,” he said, and held out a hand that reeked of smoke.

“Yunho,” I replied, vowing to remember the feel of his skin forever.

He flagged the bartender over and ordered a glass of wine.

“You a fan?” I asked, speaking carefully so I wouldn’t sound as drunk as I was.

He quirked an eyebrow.

“Of the little green men,” I clarified.

“Well, sure. I mean...as long as they don’t annihilate us, right?”

“Right,” I laughed. “You come here often?”

Jaejoong paid for his drink and swirled the cup expertly before taking a sip. “Sort of. More often now that the world’s gone crazy. No work left for a starving artist. I thought I might join the seminary, lots of people flocking to churches and all that.”

“Kinda silly,” I said, fighting the urge to finger the cross hidden under my shirt, “It’s not like they’re shooting at us.”

He nodded thoughtfully. “True.”

~~~~~
“So it’s pretty neat that they haven’t blown us up yet.”
I turned in my seat and smiled when I saw Jaejoong sashay up to the bar and plop down beside me.
“I’m stoked. It’s like an early Christmas present.”
I melted when he laughed.
“Who knew that little green men could be nice?”
“How do you know?” I asked him.
“What?”
“That they’re little and green.”
He considered this for a moment, chewing his bottom lip, a look of intense concentration flitting across his face. “Well, I suppose they could be yellow.”
This time I laughed.
"You should tell me, though, because that's what you called them."
I bought the smartass a drink, just to be nice.
~~~~~

“So do you think we celebrated a little bit early?”

I took a careful sip of my drink and watched as world leaders pleaded on all frequencies to the exotic visitors to please respond to them in some way.

“Maybe. I wonder what they’re waiting for.”

“Superman,” Jaejoong whispered conspiratorially.

“Maybe the whole Justice League. Half of them were aliens.”

“Not yellow, though.”

“No, not yellow.”

“Wasn’t one green?”

I stared at him, momentarily lost in the contours of his face. “You know,” I murmured, “I really don’t care.”

Jaejoong giggled and took another sip of his wine. “Me neither.”

~~~~
“Wanna go out on a date?”
I choked on an ice cube and wondered if I had heard Jaejoong correctly.
“Sorry?
“A date. Like, let’s plan to go somewhere instead of accidentally meet up at the same bar every night.”
My head became fuzzy and I shook it slightly, trying to rid myself of the feeling. “Um...”
“Shit. You’re straight aren’t you? Fuck. I’m sorry.”
“No,” I said, maybe a little too quickly, “No, it’s cool. I mean...why not just add to all the chaos, right?”
Jaejoong grinned. “Great. Let’s go.”
“Wait...now?”
“Sure. Let’s just drive somewhere.”
I managed to throw some bills onto the counter for the drink I had taken two sips of before I was pulled out the door. How lucky could I get?
“Just for the record,” I said when he had been driving for an hour, “I sort of hoped you’d show up every night.”
“I know.”
~~~~~~

“You’re not an alien are you?”

“What?”

We were lying on blanket in a park, staring up at the sky, when I decided that I ought to just ask him.

“An alien. You know, befriending the locals or whatever, setting up strategic points before you strike and end my happy life.”

I looked over at him and he was gaping.

“Why would you think I’m an alien?”

“Well...you just randomly showed up...and you’re way too beautiful to be human.”

“What the fuck, Yunho,” Jaejoong sat up and lit a cigarette, “Do I look little and green to you?”

~~~~~
“Let’s have sex.”
“Excuse me?”
“Make love. Canoodle. Did you not get the talk when you were little?”
“You are so an alien.”
“I am not. But we could role play if you want. I can go buy green paint.”
“Oh my God.”
~~~~~

“Seriously,” Jaejoong said over a glass of wine he’d hardly touched, “All kidding aside, I’ve been thinking.”

I rocked back into the chair I was sitting in and regarded him. “Shoot.”

“Theoretically, the world could end, right?”

“Theoretically the world can end at any time, yes.”

“But little green men sort of make it more imminent.”

I cocked my head. “I think maybe that’s Hollywood talking.”

“Maybe,” Jaejoong conceded, “But still. It makes you think, you know? Like...have I done everything I wanted to do.”

I nodded. “Sure. That’s normal.”

“So I thought about all the things I wanted.”

I waited, sensing the end of his thought and wondering how I was going to respond.

“And I realized I really want you.”

~~~~~
I decided we’d work up to wanting me. At the bottom of Jaejoong’s list was visit Paris. However, all traveling was out of the question until our celestial visitors did something other than sit in their spinning disks in the sky, so that was crossed off.
“I want a dog.”
“That isn’t on your list, Jaejoong”
“I want one, though. I will call him the Little Green Dog.”
“Dogs are not green.”
“I’m not stupid, Yunho.”
“Sometimes I wonder.”
I avoided the swing of his arm, but not his mouth as it found mine.
“It will be called the Little Green Dog,” Jaejoong said forcefully and I licked my lips, my mind unable to form any sort of rational comeback.
“Cool.”
~~~~~

“I lied.”

We were lying on the grass again, and I started slightly. He hadn’t said anything for the past half hour.

“I knew it. You are an alien.”

“Shut up,” Jaejoong smacked me and I snickered.

“Okay. What did you lie about?”

“I don’t have a list.”

“What? But-”

He covered my mouth with his hand, rolling onto his stomach and staring seriously at me, blocking out stars, planets, and little green men.

“I really only want you.”

Well, fuck, I thought. And I did.

~~~~
“Where do you think they went?”
We were watching the television in the bar, nursing our whiskey and wine respectively, laughing as reporters and analysts and scientists tried to work out what the hell had just happened over the past month.
“Stars, planets, nebulas...who knows.”
“What do you think they wanted?”
“Maybe they were just curious. Like nosy neighbors.”
“Maybe they’ll come back and kill us.”
“I don’t think so.”
“No?”
“No.”
Jaejoong narrowed his eyes. “Are you an alien? Is that how you know this?”
I laughed, “I guess I’m just not much of a pessimist.”
He harrumphed and I smiled into my tumbler.
“I guess it’s kind of nice,” he spoke again.
“What is?” I asked.
“Knowing that we’re not alone.”
I patted his hand. “You’ll never be alone, Jaejoong, not if I can help it.”
A/N We were watching Contact during lunch at work today and this just sort of came to me...
